Newsletter Spring Term 1

Happy New Year to you all! We hope you had a lovely holiday and want to say a huge THANK YOU for the lovely cards and gifts we were given for Christmas. Your kind thoughts and generosity was much appreciated.

Thank you for supporting our Christmas fund raising events this year. We raised nearly £550 from our Family Christmas Craft Day and the delicious Christmas cakes made by the children. We are planning to put these monies towards an end of year trip.

We are holding one of our very popular quiz nights on Friday 28th February at Pre-school. The licensed bar will open at 7:30pm and the quiz will start at 8:00 pm. The quiz will cost £2.50 per head. Teams of made up of 4-6 people can be decided in advance or made up on the night. We will offer a fish and chips supper which must be ordered in advance. All monies raised from this event will go towards the end of year trip so feel free to bring along as many friends and family members as you can. Entry forms will be coming out soon but for the moment please put this date in your diary.

We understand parking can be difficult at times and ask parents to either park in the designated spaces in the car park or park respectfully and safely on St. Bernards Road. Please never park in the spaces marked YMCA staff only near the Pre-school front door.

In the event of adverse weather the Pre-school Managers will make the decision as to whether to open or close. The decision, if possible, will be made before 7:30 am and will be based on the information received from the media regarding the weather forecast for the day and supplemented by on the spot observations from staff. Parents will be notified via the Website where the decision for the day will be posted by 7:40 in the morning. We will also try to email parents.

In the event of Pre-School having to close due to severe weather starting during opening hours, a message for parents to collect their children will be posted on the website and parents will also be contacted by phone and asked to come and collect their children as soon as possible. Please ensure all your contact details and those of your emergency contact are current.

Can we please, please remind all our parents and carers, especially now with the colder weather to name all hats, coats, scarves and gloves that come to Pre-school. The staff are pretty good at remembering which coat belongs to who but it is quite difficult with 30 pairs of mittens!!! It’s is also difficult for grandparents who pick up if children’s possessions are not named.

Please make sure your child’s lunch box is clearly named and does not include any products that may contain nuts. We have signed up to the NHS Change4Life Startwell Healthy Eating and Being Active Programme so we ask that you do not put any sweets or fizzy/energy drinks into their lunch box. As we have children with special dietary requirements we request that no cakes, sweets or other edible treats be sent in by parents to celebrate their child’s birthday.

As you know we are a non-profit making charity which relies on the support of our parents. If you work for a bank or finance company, they may match our fundraising. Please let us know if you can help!

HELP PLEASE Do you have access to resources that might benefit Pre-school? We are always looking for card or paper that the children can use for drawing. Any creative resources would be much appreciated. We would also welcome some spare clothes – unisex jogging bottoms, pants/knickers and socks. Please speak to Cathy or Lesley if you think you can help.

APPLICATIONS FOR FUNDED PLACES FOR THE SUMMER TERM. We have some Orange Bods who will turn 3 before the 31 March 2020 and will therefore automatically become eligible for 15 free hours of Early Education Entitlement from April. Letters will be coming out shortly asking parents to confirm if they would like to increase the sessions their child attends after Easter. We have limited availability of sessions so please speak to Cathy as soon as possible to discuss your requirements. Working parents may be eligible for the 30 Hours Extended Entitlement for their child. To submit a claim for an extended entitlement place for April 2020 a child must have turned 3 years old by 31 March 2020 AND parents must have received their 11 digit eligibility code from HMRC through the Childcare Choices website before 31st March.

This is a government scheme which supports working parents with childcare costs. Working parents need to set up an online childcare account which can be used to pay childcare providers directly. For every £8 parents pay in to their account, the government will pay in an extra £2. You can get up to £2000 per year for each child who is under 12 years old. For more information, or to find out if you are eligible, please go to the Childcare Choices website.
